20 Christmas-Themed Critical Thinking Station Cards

The 20 Christmas-Themed Critical Thinking Station Cards are the perfect time filler for students who finish work early. Or, use them as an enrichment activity for all students. This packet includes five separate critical thinking activities - with four problems in each activity.

These Station Cards support the development of higher-order critical thinking skills. They tap into Verbal, Mathematical, and Visual-Spatial skills and include:

One-By-One Words: Challenge students to look for spelling patterns as they create new words by changing a single letter in each step.

ABC = 123: Classic alphametic logic puzzles, where you subsitute one digit for every different letter in order to create a true addition problem. These puzzles all have a winter holiday theme, such as JINGLE + JANGLE = SLEIGH.

Fold-Ups: Work with symmetry, positive space, and just a bit of mental rotation.

Word Analogies: Eight different analogies to solve, including shades of meaning - all with a winter theme.

Roll It Out: A super challenge for visual-spatial learner that involves some complex mental rotations skills.

This packet also includes quarter-page How To cards for each of the five critical thinking activities. A half-page pre-printed Answer Sheet can also be used by students to record their responses. Finally, solutions are included for easy teacher grading.

Please remember, not all children have strengths in all critical thinking areas. The ability to mentally rotate objects, for example, can be especially challenging to some children. For these children, you are encouraged to print a copy of the Roll It Out dice. Fold it into a cube and tape the edges together. Let children rotate the dice in their hands for a more concrete learning experience.
