20 Quick Questions No 3 Improving pace of mental math calculations Negative Numbers
This is one of 20 interactive activities for the IWB where students are challenged with 20 mental math questions in quick succession. All are on sale separately under the banner 20 Quick Questions.
This activity focuses on negative numbers and has 20 question followed by the answers. There is also a free sheet that teachers may choose to issue to pupils for recording answers.
I set this up on the IWB, every pupil has a copy of the answer sheet under an acetate overlay. Using their whiteboard pen, they note the answers and then we correct the activity as a group discussing the best way to answer specific questions. I keep a record of their scores and can quickly inform them if they have improves, and by how much, when the activity is repeated.
This is easily adapted and pupils derive a huge level of enjoyment as well as instant feedback from the challenge of this type of activity. I have used this with great success.
The slides are timed so all the teacher needs to do is press F5 and the activity runs itself.
