Click to take a peek: Full Year of Social Skills Morning Meetings
These discussion prompts:
- reinforce expected behaviour
- encourage students to make good choices
- align with the Responsive Classroom organization of a morning meeting
- encourage discussion and reflection on important topics such as personal space, kindness, empathy, friendship, citizenship, self-managing emotions, conflict resolution, and other essential social skills. It also includes discussions about expectations in the classroom, hallways and playground.
All the planning is done for you, with enough meaningful topics for each day of the entire month! There are 20 journal prompts to facilitate your discussions.
The lessons are organized into 5 lessons per week on the same topic for a thorough exploration and time to absorb concepts
Because of the nature of teaching social skills, these lessons are NOT organized by monthly themes. You can use the lessons in - you are locked into monthly themes that may not match the social skills your students need to practice at any given time.
Just a few minutes each day can really make a difference!
All of the social skills topics are at your fingertips - just click the topic you want to discuss and you're ready to go!
This resource includes everything you need to start meaningful discussions in just 15 minutes a day! With the paperless option, simply project your selected topic poster onto any standard white board and you are ready to start without any copying or printing! Students may fill in answers themselves on the whiteboard using dry erase markers, or you can type the answers directly on top of the Power Point slides. NOTE: Many of the activities are perfect to use at the start of a distance learning ZOOM call by simply sharing your screen to start the discussion.
: All of the activities are included in a PDF format if you prefer to print. You may wish to project an activity and discuss with students, then give a printable copy for them to write ideas onto. There are also open-ended printable versions of each activity to use as a journal format.
: Another idea is to give students a printed version to work on alone or with a partner BEFORE your class meeting, then project the page afterwards when you meet together. This way students have had time to think, discuss, and write about the topics before meeting.
If you are using Google Classroom, these are easily adaptable to that platform. All 20 activities have a PowerPoint image slide version included, so you are able to cut/paste directly into Google Slides and add text boxes for students to fill in. These slides are not inserted as a background into the Power Point, so the process is simple and easy: Click on any PowerPoint slide on the left sidebar. Choose cut/copy. Open a blank Google Slide and paste. Then simple add blank text boxes on top of the template where you'd like students to type.
Please note the preview images may not be from this particular set, but rather randomly chosen from the entire yearlong bundle of 200 Morning Meeting topics. The formats are exactly the same so you can see what you are getting.
: PDF Printable Versions - I've added a complete set of PDF versions if you prefer to use that to view or print the pages. You can also print from the original Power Point versions, but this gives you more options!
: PRINTABLE JOURNAL PROMPTS - I've added a complete set of PDF open-ended generic journal pages to print as booklets. These match the format of the original pages, but include templates for students to write a letter, fill in a brainstorm web, fill in speech bubbles, or blank writing pages. These are the same for all of the individual units and the bundle.
: REFERENCE POSTERS - I've added a complete set of posters to illustrate the expected behaviours and routings for each of the weekly activities. Display these on the wall to remind students of good choices. These are included in all of the individual units and the bundle.
If you are needing EDITABLE versions of these templates, those are included in the full year bundle of 200 prompts which you can see HERE.
