PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

What better way to get your students involved with current events other than using the presidential election? !

This activity was set up to promote receptive and expressive language skills- specifically inferencing, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression. The materials in this packet may be utilized in a variety of ways.

Table of Contents

Pages 1- 2: Descriptive Language, Using Adjectives, or Implementing EET
The student is encouraged to come up with adjectives to describe presidential candidates. This worksheet could also be used to incorporate EET goals.

Pages 3-5 Main Idea, Details, Context Clues, Vocabulary, Nonliteral Language
I have provided 2 excerpts from campaign speeches for students to analyze and discover new vocabulary words. The passages provided also list a few examples of non literal language. The student is encouraged to explore new vocabulary and analyze context clues using the tables provided.

The tables provided could also be utilized for academic passages, newspaper articles, YouTube videos, etc.

The provided excerpts may also be used with the provided main idea worksheets.

Page 6 Main Idea and Supporting Details
This worksheet may be completed with the provided excerpts on pages 3 & 4 or with supplementary academic material, newspaper articles, YouTube videos, etc.

Pages 7-8 Compare & Contrast
The provided Venn Diagram contains political party/candidate graphics but may also be used to compare/contrast new vocabulary words regarding the campaign or academic material.

Page 9 Voting Ballot
Students are encouraged to take part in the voting fun! Depending how long this unit lasts- students
Should be able to provide a sound opinion regarding their candidate choice.

Page 10 ”If I ran for president, I would...”

Page 11-17 Unit Vocabulary Context Clue UNO
This game is played exactly like the popular game, UNO. The first player to get rid of all of their cards win!
