This is a 2016 Election Unit designed to introduce and teach students about the election process while taking them through a mock election. Students are asked to choose between two fictional candidates (Pizza or Ice Cream) to become the 2016 School President. The Unit contains 7 different lessons intended to help students through the steps of the election process. Each lesson is roughly 20 minutes in length, but can be adjusted as needed to fit schedules. Students will learn what a vote is, what it means to vote, and why it is important to vote. Students will go through a mock election and elect a winner. The intention is for the class to then celebrate by eating a treat of whichever food wins the election (depending on the food restrictions and regulations at your school). This lesson was developed for the primary grades (K-3) but can be adapted for any grade level.
This package includes all of the materials needed to teach this lesson, including Lesson Plans, PowerPoints, Worksheets, Ballots, Sticker Templates, Assessments, Posters, and Candidate Campaign Videos.
