This is a spreadsheet that I created to go along with my class discussions about the upcoming presidential election. I have found that my students have very serious and very preconceived notions on who they would support if they could vote. With this spreadsheet, I'm challenging them to keep an open mind.
Note: I have tried to make everything as kid-friendly and simple as possible. However, you may want to use discretion when using this with younger grades. I would recommend at least discussing the issues with them rather than having them fill it out independently.
I have also tried to make everything as unbiased as possible. Please let me know if you see any corrections or issues!
Depending on the grade level of your students, discuss each of the issues and have the students decide how important they are to them - 1 being least and 3 being most. Then, have them rate the statements 1 - 5.
If your students are using the Excel sheet, it will automatically calculate the scores for them. At the bottom, the highest score is the candidate they would most likely support.
If you have printed it out, they will need to multiply each statement by each of the weights in order to find their total score for each candidate. Again, the highest score is the candidate they would most likely support.
If you would like me to share this with you via Google Sheets, I can do that as well. Let me know!
Candidates: 1 - Trump; 2 - Clinton; 3 - Johnson; 4 - Stein.
Thank you for your download! I'd love to have any and all feedback!
