Help your students avoid the summer slide WITHOUT using reams of paper to copy large activity packets!
This resource is a 9 page comprehensive summer activity packet that is aligned to 2nd Grade Common Core Standards. This packet is appropriate for students who are currently finishing Kindergarten regardless of whether they will be retained in 2nd grade next year or promoted to 2nd grade. The packet allows students to practice a wide variety of standards using nothing but the contents of the packet, a pack of index cards, and a composition notebook. A few of the activities reference websites, but most activities don't require internet access to complete.
Each activity packet contains the following:
~ Parent Letter - all you have to do is sign it!
~ Summer Reading Log
~ "Helpful Hints" page that includes suggestions for websites, directions for how to make some of the activity components, and examples for how to make daily entries into their journals
~ Dolch word lists & comprehension question stems for fiction and non-fiction texts (roughly aligned to Levels I-N)
~ Activity calendars for the end of May and all of June, July, and August with 65+ suggestions for ELA and math activities that are aligned to 2nd grade Common Core Standards (custom date ranges are listed below)

What types of academic skills do these calendars cover?
The calendars have one activity each day, and all activities are directly aligned to CCSS standards. If today's activity addresses an ELA standard(s), then tomorrow's activity will be a math activity; the activities alternate each day between ELA and Math. Be sure to click on "Preview" to access full-page views of the June calendar, the parent letter & all the supporting pages, and the CCSS alignment guides.
My school gets out in June and goes back in the middle of August. How will the custom date ranges accommodate that?

Is this product for repeating 2nd graders, rising 3rd graders, or both?
Both. The activities in this product are aligned to 2nd grade CCSS standards, so students who use the calendars will be practicing 2nd grade level skills. For children who will repeat 2nd grade next year, this will give them a chance to work on some of the skills they didn't master this past school year. For children who will go on to the 3rd grade, this will allow them to maintain their academic skills so they will be ready for 3rd grade curriculum content when school starts.
What about students who are functioning well below or well above their current grade level?
Kids who are functioning one grade level below or above their current grade will probably be fine with this calendar set. Children who are functioning more than 2 grade levels above or below their current grade may need calendars for a different grade level. You can use the link at the very bottom of this page to explore other grade levels - the preview downloads for each grade level include the full calendar for June, so you'll be able to get a good idea of what types of activities are included for that grade level.
Will I have to buy this resource again next year? This resource is a bit pricey compared to other summer calendar products available on TpT, and I want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth.
I totally get that! I have been updating these calendars each year at no additional charge, so buyers only have to purchase them once. (The price also reflects the fact that this resource includes 65 rigorous activities that are crammed into four pages to reduce the amount of copies you'd have to make for each student). To access the updated calendars each year, all you have to do next year is wait for the e-mail indicating they've been updated then go to your "My Purchases" page and download the updated file. I intend to continue to update this resource (free of charge) each and every year for as long as I am a seller on TpT.
Can I use this resource for all 3rd grade students at my school?
Certainly! All you have to do is purchase an extra license for each additional classroom or homeroom teacher you want to share the calendars with (i.e. 1 licence for each classroom). Extra licenses are tpically 10% off the regular product price, but I understand that school budgets get REALLY tight at the end of the school year. To make sure you and your school can afford to use this resource, I've discounted extra licenses to 75% off!!!!!
Each extra license for this bundle covers 6 teachers. Use the links below to access information about TpT for Schools:

I love this resource! Is it available for other grade levels? How about a bundle?
This resource is availble for all grade levels from Kindergarten to 5th grade. A K-5 BUNDLE is also available! To access these resources, click the link below:

This file is took FOREVER to download, and then I couldn't open the .pdf files after I downloaded it to my computer...can you help me out?
No problem! This is a very large .zip file, so it may take a while to download (epecially if you have a slow internet connection or are using a computer with limited memory capacity). Also, you will need to extract the files after you download and save them onto your computer before you can open the .pdf files. If you need a bit of assistance with troubleshooting download issues, I've found this post from Erica Bohrer to be very helpful: TpT Download Technical Difficulty Help
