Welcome to my Olympic Symbols Project in Kid Pix. Let me make sure it is clear that you need to have Kid Pix 4 to complete this project. It is an inexpensive drawing program that is available at most office supply stores. Every year I have a theme for the year in all my computer classes, kindergarten through 7th grade. This year in honor of the 2014 Winter Olympics, my theme is The Olympics. My 1st and 2nd graders are learning about 3 different Olympic symbols by drawing and typing a few sentences about them in Kid Pix 4 Deluxe. I found a wonderful website that is very kid friendly and gives an easy to understand description and history of each symbol. If you are not familiar with Kid Pix, it is a great program for your younger computer students. It has some of the same tools as they will find in the Microsoft Office programs like the text box and fill bucket. The different drawing tools are easy to learn, very colorful and fun to draw with. My students are learning about the first symbol, the Olympic flag. They are having a blast typing and drawing. I hope you will consider buying this curriculum to use in your classroom. The package includes sample drawings of each symbol and detailed lesson plans with step by step instruction. No computer experience is required to teach this unit. Thanks for your interest in this project.
