2.3 Tangent and Normal Lines
This is the third lesson in the Derivatives Unit. The lesson contains Guided Notes, homework, SmartBoard lesson, and all solutions. Don’t forget the added bonus of a math joke embedded into the Smartboard lesson ☺! You may have also opted to purchase the video lesson to the notes.
In this lesson, students will be taught how to find tangent lines and normal lines. They will also understand how to find points that make the tangent line parallel to another line and also find points where the tangent line is horizontal. Throughout the lesson, students will be accessing prior knowledge from Algebra 1. They will have to remember how to write a linear equation using point-slope form. Additionally, students should recall how to determine a parallel and perpendicular slope and also the slope of a horizontal line.
I hope you find the notes easy to follow. Please feel free to offer any suggestions on how to make them better as well! Through a community of collaboration, we can better challenge and support our students and their learning process.
All the best,
