My second graders in March have finished Unit 2 of Conversational Solfege, and are fluently decoding and reading patterns using quarter note and 2-beamed eighth notes (Unit 1) and dotted quarter note and 3-beamed eighth notes (Unit 2).
Because our district requires students to recognize unbeamed eighth-notes, I also include those. This powerpoint serves as a review of what we previously learned as we begin Unit 3, because I never want them to forget what we worked hard to master.
This powerpoint begins with all notes being beamed and alternates between 2/4 and 6/8 patterns. Eventually, the beams are taken away and the students are very successful in reading.
There are 34 slides, and 2 of them are instructional. Just because I use this in 2nd grade does not mean you could not use it with another grade - every teaching situation and batch of students is different! Use it where it works for you. :)
