This offering is a 25 puzzle set of puzzles on Edgar Allan Poe and eight of his more popular works: The Cask of Amontillado, The Purloined Letter, The Raven, The Black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Pit and the Pendulum. Included is a math essay puzzle giving critical dates and numbers about Edgar Allan Poe. The math is NOT hard. I'd like for it to be done mentally . . . and seventh graders should be able to handle it easily, the 12th graders should get some mental practice/review. Essentially there are eight word searches (that search for nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives that Poe used in each of the works listed above . . . 2 that search for nouns, 2 that search for verbs, 2 for adverbs, 2 for adjectives . . . I DO give brief definitions of the words that I'm having the puzzle-doer search for); 8 vocabulary puzzles one for each work; and 8 crosswords, one for each work. With the crosswords older students should be able to complete the puzzles on their own (though they WILL think) and younger students might be best working in groups or even as a class. Remember! The point of a crossword is not to get each answer easily. You would learn nothing. I HAVE given enough easier clues such that when combined with the theme clues students should be just fine. Also I HAVE given explanations to some of the more "interesting" answers on my solution page. The price for this package saves well over $20.00 for what one would have to pay if buying the 3-puzzle packages individually.
