2.6 Trigonometric Derivatives
This is the sixth lesson in the Derivatives Unit. The lesson contains Guided Notes, homework, SmartBoard lesson, and all solutions. Don’t forget the added bonus of a math joke embedded into the Smartboard lesson ☺! You may have also opted to purchase the video lesson to the notes.
In this lesson, students will be taught the six trigonometric derivatives. The lesson begins with finding the derivatives to tanx, cscx, secx, and cotx using the Quotient Rule and the derivatives to sinx and cosx. I find that working these out helps my students makes connections to the trig derivatives that are more difficult. After that, students will use all six trig derivatives using the Product, Quotient Rule, and Chain Rule. I separated the different ways that students will see the Chain Rule. These different ways often confuse the students. I hope by separating the types, it will help the students to recognize the difference.
I hope you find the notes easy to follow. Please feel free to offer any suggestions on how to make them better as well! Through a community of collaboration, we can better challenge and support our students and their learning process.
All the best,
