As a Teacher of the Deaf, I often focus lessons on Figurative Language; focusing primarily on Idiom Phrases. Therefore, to further assist my students in understanding common social idioms, I've created this 38 Page Word Document that consists of 268 common Idiom Phrases. Each Idiom Phrases also has an example sentence. I've written a basic sentence with the Idiom in context to help build a concrete understanding of each's meaning. You can always make your own orally, if you don't like the ones I've created. I've always written out the meaning of each Idiom Phrases on a separate card.
These Idiom Phrases Flash Cards can be used it multiple ways. You, as a Teacher or Parent can print them on vibrant colored pages of card-stock; cutting out length wise, connecting the phrase with its definition OR cutting each rectangle out to have the student match the phrases and example sentence to its definition. I would recommend cutting page-by-page and then placing them in separate bags, if you choose this option. That way you have the phrases with their actual definitions and not all mixed up!
I hope you find this resource as beneficial as I do! My students love it when I punch holes in them and then add them to a ring for them to keep to study! You can print multiple copies to help your individual students and families!
