Do you have that container of pattern blocks sitting in your math cupboard that you would like to get more use from? These pattern block building task cards are perfect for that! Your students need to manipulate and reposition the blocks as they combine them together to build the pictures.
I love using activities for this as part of my math centers, or even set up as one of the activities available to my students during play, as not only are they learning how shapes can go together, but they are also increasing their fine motor skill development.
These pattern block mats are not designed for students to be building on top of, but rather to build alongside. This increases your student's cognitive development so much more and provides more of a challenge than just placing the blocks on top of a design.
Pattern Block building cards include:
- 56 half-page picture mats providing pictures to cover all 4 seasons (note - there is a variety of difficulty among the pictures with both the number and variety of shapes blocks required to build the pictures)
- 12 half-page continuous pattern mats
To Set Up:
Print the mats, laminate for durability (or print on cardstock) and set out a few pattern block cards along with a selection of blocks for students to build the pictures with.
