Here is a fun little graphing activity involving 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle). Students sort snack foods into the four different categories, color in a bar graph, and then answer questions about the graph. What could be more fun than eating your math? My students always LOVE it when I say we'll be eating our math and I'm sure yours will too!
This activity hits two Common Core Math Standards:
Identify and describe shapes - CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.G.A.2
Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.
1st Grade Measurement and Data:
Represent and interpret data.- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.C.4
Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
