2-D Shape Hunt
Students go on a “2-D Shape Hunt” during Daily 5 Word Work!
Make one copy shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval, rhombus) on cardstock. Cut out the shapes, and hang them around the classroom. Copy word list sheet for each student. During Daily 5, students challenge themselves to hunt for, write, and draw 2D shapes!

iPod/iPad Camera Activity: Search for Shapes
Students cut out books. Teacher staples. Introduce students to the camera on the classroom iPad/iPod. Go on a class walk around the school, and allow students to take turns taking pictures of objects that are one of the six shapes included in the booklet. Upon returning to the classroom, review pictures on the smart board. As a class, draw pictures to correlate with the shapes listed in the booklet.
Creative Shape Writing
Show students examples of how to create a picture using the given shape. Students create their own pictures and write sentences to go with the pictures. The following shapes are included on writing papers: circle, oval, square, rectangle, rhombus, triangle.
Creative Shape Pictures
Copy shape sheets on a variety of colors for students to mix and match. Show students examples of how to create a picture using shapes. Students create their own pictures by cutting out and gluing shapes to a separate sheet of paper.
