I designed this pack to help your students become familiar with the names of 2D and 3D shapes.
2D: circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, rhombuses
3D: cubes, cones, spheres, cylinders
There are different ways to use this packet.
1) sort environmental shape picture cards by shape in a pocket chart
Example: a slice of pizza is shaped like a triangle or a clock is shaped like a circle. (Whole group activity)
2) sorting jars - there are 9 jars - each labeled with a shape name and image. Students will sort the environmental shape picture cards and lay them on top of the correct sorting jar (Independent or partner activity)
3) positional words - display the picture cards in a pocket chart *not included* and put a shape card in too. Have students use positional words to describe where the shape card is located. (Whole group activity - could be played as a center)
4) worksheets - assess your students' ability to discriminate shapes or use positional words with the black and white shape sorting worksheets
