UPDATED with more activities, easier to access files, and better fonts and graphics: June 19, 2015
There are so many ways to have fun with shapes! This bundle includes 4 activities that can be used as centers, whole group, homework, morning work, or to just be handy when you need a quick printable. The activities are designed for K-2 grades but can be adjusted for upper levels as well. All four activities can be used for 2D shape instruction and two activities can be used for 3D shapes.
1. Shape Categories
Each student gets a copy of page 1 and half of page 2 (trying to save you on printing!) Students color the shapes accordingly, cut, and glue them in the right category.
2. Roll a Shape
Students roll a die and draw the shape next to the number they rolled. For time, students can either fill in all the boxes to be quicker or only fill in one box each time it is rolled to be longer. There are color pages included that would be great to laminate and use as a dry erase center and black and white versions for quick prints!
3. Shape Detectives
In groups of 3, students are given jobs. The clue giver comes up with clues (attributes), the artist uses those clues to draw the shape, and the builder builds it. The way it is built is up to you. I’ve used popsicle sticks for 2D shapes and toothpicks and marshmallows for 2D or 3D. Play-do might be fun, too!
4. Shape Sort Mats
Give students shape manipulatives and use this as a center, whole group, or for early finishers! Students can sort them how they please or with specific instruction from you!
