4 lesson plans are directly aligned to Kindergarten Common Core Standards for geometry.
-describing objects in the environment using names of shapes
-correctly naming shapes regardless of orientation or size
-determining the difference between 2D and 3D shapes
-identifying attributes of 2D and 3D shapes
-analyzing and comparing 2D and 3D shapes
-modeling shapes by building components and drawing shapes
Students will explore these concepts through the following:
-use of literature
-using a life-size T-chart and classroom hunt
-using manipulatives and movement
-playing Shape BINGO
-playing "What Shape Am I?" Game
-playing the "Mystery Shape Game"
-modeling and drawing shapes with different materials and medians
-exploring shapes through foods
Resources include: 2D and 3D Shape Sort Worksheet with key, 3D Shape Chart with key, BINGO Cards, What Shape Am I? cards, and Food Shape Chart.
These lessons are a part of the Kindergarten Geometry Unit/Shape Unit by Kara Kruchinski that is also available for purchase but these lessons can be used independently as well.
