A great way to incorporate art into your math lesson! Students will LOVE this hands on, creative project. This project focused on the 2D and 3D shape unit, covering everything from straight and curved lines of a 2D shape, to the faces, vertices, and edges in a 3D shape. Students create and fold net boxes as well; but with a fun twist. Students create a spring (or Easter) basket (a cube) to put all their other shapes into, while recording all their knowledge of each 2D and 3D shape they created in their square shape book.
Included in the download are all the templates that you can photocopy for your students, as well as step by step instructions and pictures showing you how to create each shape. There are 12 project templates and instructions in all, as well as a student assessment checklist.
- bunny or chick
- shape book
- bird nest
- chick in an egg
I turned this project into math centers. I had a few art centers going during each math class so students could move from one center to the next as they finished. At each center was my finished example, the templates, the paper they needed to trace onto (or the photocopied papers), as well as all the supplies they needed - glue, scissors, etc.
