This resource was created to help address standard 2.RF.3a (distinguish between long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words)
(This game ONLY works with long or short vowel sounds of the letter I)
- Display each slide (40 slides for game use) full screen onto class Smartboard and/or class projector. (These slides could also be printed out - 4 per page - and used as a small group center activity with a parent/assistant helper!)
- Teacher/Students will read each word and will determine whether the given word has a long or short vowel sound (this game ONLY works with long or short vowel sounds of the letter I)
- Students will STAND or SIT to give their answer.
OPTIONS: before answering, you can have students discuss with a partner, as a group, or individually. Choose the best method for your class!
Simple as that!
This is a great opportunity to quickly assess who's understanding and who needs a little help!
