This combo pack includes one cover page for the entire combo pack and a separate instruction sheet for each grade.
This game is aligned to the common core standards! It targets understanding of synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and homophones, and can also be used for articulation carryover. Words used in this activity were carefully chosen using the most frequently occurring Tier 2 vocabulary words. This game can be used for small group instruction, literacy centers, and speech therapy.
To modify your Jenga or stacking blocks game for use with this activity, place one sticker on each block, alternating colors. Each student chooses a worksheet (sheets may be printed, laminated, or placed in clear binder sheets). When working with groups of students, each student chooses a different skill to target (i.e., one student chooses a synonyms sheet, another student chooses an antonym sheet, etc.). The object of the game is to check off as many words as possible before the tower falls. Students take turns drawing blocks from the tower. For example, if the student has a synonym (green) sheet and draws a block with a green sticker, they choose a word on their sheet, give a synonym for that word, place a check in the green circle next to the word, and place the block on the top of the tower. If the student draws a block that does not match their sheet, they place the block on the top of the tower without checking a box. For extra practice, have the student think of an antonym for a word on their sheet (antonyms sheet would require the student to choose a synonym, homonyms sheet and homophones sheet would require the student to think of two or more definitions for a word). Students may also choose a word on their sheet and illustrate it’s meaning or use the word in a sentence. Play continues until a student has checked off all their words or the tower falls. If the tower falls before any student has checked off every box on their sheet, the player with the most check marks wins.
