This one page worksheet can be used whole class first, then repeated throughout the year for review as a math station, center, or other independent practice.
It may get loud...but they will all be busy practicing these skills! (And no one can copy off anyone else because they build their own number with dice or a spinner...so you can really see who knows what they are doing!)
Students roll dice or spin a spinner three times to build a three digit number. (You can start whole class with a two digit number first). Then, using their number, they fill out a chart with the digit in each spot in place value AND the VALUE of each digit. Finally, they will write the number in expanded form. To complete the project, they will need to know and explain the difference between the VALUE of the number and the DIGIT itself (the name of the number).
Early finishers are encourage with a challenge on the back of the page - Challenge: add up two of those BIG numbers! Then subtract two numbers (remember the BIGGER number has to be on TOP to subtract. Keep going until time is up! Or, roll or spin for a 4 digit number and write it's expanded form. Have fun!
I use this for review and practice all year. I use it with the "dice in dice" product or they can roll a single die or use a spinner. It's fun for them any way! Watch them bloom!
