2.L.2a Capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic names
This is a PowerPoint file. This is also available with some shaded examples in a SMART Board Notebook file at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/2nd-Grade-Common-Core-Capitalize-Holidays-Products-Geography-L22a-963801.
The objective of this file is to teach and review that “I can use a capital letter for the beginning of holidays, product names, and geographic names.”
The first five slides teach and give examples of:
What is a holiday?
What is a product?
What is a geographic name?
The next five slides give examples of holiday sentences that are already made, directed for students to make using a sentence frame, or directed for students to create on their own and explain why they used a capital letters or not. In addition, four slides focus on product names and five slides focus on geographic names. Throughout the file, students are greeted with cute detectives (both kid and animal detectives) that remind them to search for the special words that need a capital letter. This file also reviews that you need a capital letter at the start of a sentence and for the word I. This file can be used all year for review and practice!
