The goal of this file is to teach and review that
“I can solve word problems involving dollar bills,
quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, and
using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.”
The first 20 slides introduce coins and their characteristics, how to identify them, a short history of money, why it is important to learn money, and how we use it in our lives each day (including two Word file reference sheets with coin pictures and values). There are pages where the coins can be pulled down into the work space in any amount for you to customize what they will be counting for daily practice.
The next 20 slides are word problems from cute Arctic animals (penguins in all shapes, styles, and colors, along with other cold weather pals).
Embedded in the file are Word files with study guides and worksheets for practice. These include a “Polar Bear Cafe” menu where students add up the orders of food for the animals to practice adding with decimal points and dollar signs (this can be taken home for fun homework with the family!). There are also 6 website links for a great counting song, games, videos, and other information. This file can be used all year for review and practice!
