Second Grade Measurement and Data
This set of task cards are perfectly aligned to the following second grade Common Core State Standard for working with money:
CCSS.2.MD.C.8 Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?
The problems presented in these cards may be used for assessing students or maintaining skills previously learned. Task cards are available with a colorful background or a black and white format.
Task Cards 1 – 4: Students will identify individual coins and give their value.
Task Cards 5 – 12: Students are directed to determine the value of a group of displayed coins and dollar bills.
Task Cards 13 – 28: Students are directed to solve the word problems.
Task Cards 29 – 31: Students are directed to solve addition and subtraction problems involving money.
Task Cards 33 – 36: Students are directed to identify the coins needed to obtain a specific value with the minimum number of coins.
An answer key has been provided to allow students to check their
own work. A recording sheet is included or a plain sheet of paper
may be used to record students’ work.
