Have you ever been confused and worried about what exactly your students or child is supposed to be learning at school in 2nd Grade English Language Arts? Have you not had the time to figure it out? I have and that’s why I created this.
It outlines the common core curriculum that has been adopted by 42 American states and breaks it down into:
The six strands of English Language Arts
The clusters of each the six strands
The standards and benchmarks of each cluster
The content complexity rating of each standard
Definitions and examples of each level of complexity
a. Level 1 (Recall)
b. Level 2 (Basic Application of Concepts & Skills)
c. Level 3 (Strategic Thinking & Complex Reasoning)
d. Level 4 (Extended Thinking & Complex Reasoning)
The benefits are:
-Greatly reduces the confusion of what exactly you’re supposed to be teaching and how you’re supposed to be teaching it
-Puts you back in control of creating the instruction your students and children need instead blindly following district policy without really understanding it.
-Helps you become more confident in planning your lessons
-Allows you to relax and enjoy teaching again as you are no longer worried if what you are teaching is what you’re supposed to be teaching and how you’re supposed to teach it
-Can increase your job success along with my job satisfaction
-Can improve your teacher observations as a result of using this document.
Most importantly, you’ll know your students and your own children are learning everything they are supposed to in the ELA curriculum. After all, their education is supposed to be about them and learning how to think, not about trying to quickly cover all the curriculum standards and them memorizing answers for a paper test.
I hope this works as well for you and your students and children as it has for me and mine :-)
