This math enrichment unit is the perfect way to help your students extend and apply the concept of using data. Students begin by using the suggested website to select a country and uncover data about that country. (Students are often surprised to find just how much data about a country can be found! Numbers are all around us!) Then students use the data to create a travel brochure for their country that includes information based on the researched data, two different graphs (bar and line plot), and the landmark data that relates to the graphs (maximum, minimum, median, and mode). This enrichment activity also includes reflection questions and a student/teacher rubric. Because this activity requires several steps and internet research, it usually takes my students two EDM units to complete. This is the math enrichment activity that my students are most proud of at the end of the year! Your students will be engaged and challenged as they learn about countries around the world and discover how math plays a role in their everyday life!
