Shape Up!

Shape Up! task cards were designed to be used for individual/partner work. Task cards are perfect for math center or workstation time. Yet, cards can also be used as a “Roam the Room” or scavenger hunt activity.

Task cards require students to use their knowledge of polygons and their attributes —- sides, vertices, and angles (including equal sides and right angles). Knowledge of triangles, quadrilaterals (trapezoid, parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, and squares), pentagons, hexagons, and octagons.

3 different sets of task cards are included. Cards are color coded by level (see below). All cards require the use of skills specified in the 2nd Grade Common Core Standards for Mathematics.

Cards can be mixed to proved practice at a variety of levels or can simply be kept in colored sets.

Punch a whole in the upper left-hand corner of each card and connect each set with a binder ring.

Title and student direction cards are provided to place in the front of task cards.

A Polygon Family poster is included. Please note: Not all polygons are shown. Understanding that squares, rectangles, and rhombuses are all parallelograms is also not addressed. While a regular pentagon, hexagon, and octagon are shown, I help my students understand that all do not look the same.

Some task cards will yield multiple answers. When reviewing your students’ work, you can determine their levels of understanding based on their responses.
