12 Lesson Plans are directly aligned with ALL Common Core Standards for 2nd Grade Geometry.

Content includes:
-identifying shapes with specific attributes
-drawing shapes with specific attributes
-partitioning rectangles into rows and columns of equal sections
-counting equal sections to find area of a rectangle
-partitioning circles and rectangles into two, three, and four equal shares

Students will explore the content through the following:

-picture books with corresponding activities
-using 2D/3D shape manipulatives and sorting
-completing a Shape Attribute Chart
-making a shape mobile
-creating shapes based on attributes with popsicle sticks, Play Dough, and shaving cream
-creating 2D shape artwork
-playing "What Shape Am I?" game
-playing "Shape BINGO"
-going on a Shape Hunt
-completing "What Shape Am I?" and "Shape Attribute" worksheets

(Partitioning rectangles into rows and columns: Lessons 6-7)
-using grid paper, Geoboards and rubber bands, and index cards to practice partitioning
-creating their own partitioned rectangles to play a card game
-rotating partitioned rectangles in groups to count areas
-completing Counting Area of a Rectangle Worksheet
-completing Partitioning Rectangles Worksheet

(Partitioning circles and rectangles into equal shares: Lesson 8-10)
-picture books with corresponding activities
-partitioning/dividing shapes with Legos, pattern blocks, food, yarn or chalk, index cards, and Circle Cut-Outs
-creating a fraction page for a class book
-making a Partitioning Shape Display
-creating a Fraction Quilt Square for a classroom quilt
-partitioning mini pizzas
-completing the Equal Shares Worksheet

Lessons 11 and 12 include a Performance Review and Assessment that covers ALL standards in the lessons. In the performance review, students will be playing an "I Spy" game to review and will draw and build shapes using paper/pencil and Play Dough. Students will use index cards and Circle-Cut Outs for the partitioning portion of the review.

The assessment includes specific directions and a checklist as you assess each student. Students will use shape manipulatives, index cards, and Circle Cut-Outs for the assessment. The set-up is explained and several links to computer games are included to keep other students reviewing while you pull students aside to assess.
