The Product At a Quick Glance

  • 200 prompts
  • Digital + Printable
  • Google Slides, PDF, PowerPoint

◼️ WAYS TO USE THIS ◼️

1. Morning work/soft start

Having this on the screen each morning becomes a predictable routine that students come to love and trust. Soon, they'll know the drill and stop asking questions when you're trying to take attendance!

2. Writing warm-up

Switch this on to transition into your writing workshop.

Optional: Students can share their answers in small groups or with the whole class to build oral language skills.

3. Sub plans

This is the *perfect* thing to leave for a sub. Students already know what to do, there is an endless supply of prompts, and it cuts down on your sub plan prep time.

4. Homework

Each set of prompts now comes with printable versions too–students can simply cut and paste the prompt strip into their notebooks and write their response below.

5. Assessment

Need a quick check to see who is using spaces? Capital letters? Use these prompts for regular writing growth benchmarks

Bonus: This makes a great year-end keepsake so students and families can see their writing grow throughout the year!

6. Distance learning

No problem! Include slides in your daily digital tasks and have students respond as usual. Slides can also be printed to include in a send-home packet.

◼️ HERE’S HOW IT WORKS ◼️

  1. Using a projector, project the prompt onto any white surface in your classroom.
  2. The left side of the screen displays the prompt and the right side of the screen shows the student sentence frame.
  3. Students write responses to the prompt in spiral notebooks.

Here’s what teachers are saying about the morning journal prompts:

I LOVE this resource! I purchased the First Grade Morning Work a few years ago and it was a game-changer. I moved to Second this school year, and this was my "must-have" resource for my new grade level! I love not having to worry about making last-minute copies for Morning Work, love wasting less paper, love that my students come in and know exactly what to do, AND they are becoming better writers! Thank you!

-Carly C.

I love everything about this, I put up the PowerPoint and the kids write.  We have great discussions and share time.  I also love that every day of the week has a theme hitting all the writing choices, it allows them to practice all different types of writing.  Especially when they are a little timid to try one that is not their favorite, they are coming out of their comfort zone and gaining so much!  Thank you!
