DESCRIPTION
“Andrew Meets Sally” is a two-page reading passage (realistic fiction) with 10 multiple-choice questions for 2nd grade students. It is about a boy and his mother deciding what pet would be best for their family. It can be used to practice basic reading comprehension and assess student understanding of the text. A writing prompt is included after the questions. Helps prepare 2nd graders for success on the 3rd grade reading STAAR test, PARCC, FCAT and other standardized tests.

*Designed to assess basic reading comprehension in second grade students and help them build stamina as readers.

*Great for teaching students to locate answers in the text to prove their thinking! Multiple-choice questions are written to support students searching for the answer. Most questions are ‘right there’ in the text with a few inference questions with easy to find support.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USING THIS PRODUCT
*Use as a weekly assessment to monitor reading comprehension

*This is a great text for guided reading instruction—students read the text with teacher support, then answer questions independently or with a partner

*Rainbow Reading Fun—Have students work with a partner to color code the text as they find proof for their answers. For example, students can use the color green to answer the first question and underline the proof using green, then choose a different color for the other questions.

DISCLAIMER
As a Texas teacher, the products I make are designed around the standards for the state of Texas, known as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and are carefully crafted to help students be successful on the Texas STAAR test. I use the challenge of the TEKS and released STAAR assessments as models to guide me when putting together lessons and materials for students. Thus, I am careful to post products that, in my judgment, address those standards. I am not affiliated in any way with these entities and any and all claims of alignment are my claims, not those of the groups behind the TEKS or STAAR test. Some of my TEKS-based products also address standards from other states, the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards), or Common Core and related standardized tests. For these products, I include the standards in the description. I am not affiliated with these entities and any claims of alignment are mine. Please contact me if you have questions.
