This interactive Reading Journal will focus your whole group instruction for Reading Wonders. It has been a life saver for me and I know it will work great for you too! Download the preview to get a closer look of a sample weekly journal!

Each day has a page associated with the main focus of the learning content in the Reading Wonders curriculum. Complete these pages as a whole group, in small groups, or have students work on them independently. You can also have groups of students working in their journals as a way to differentiate your instruction level based on their needs.

In the journal you will find:

Day 1: "This Week in Wonders" - This page (front and back) outlines what your students will be learning throughout the week in the Wonders curriculum

Day 2: "Vocabulary Word Study" - This is an interactive page (front and back) that has students in engaged in each of the vocabulary words for the week. The process is similar to the GLAD strategy of the cognitive content dictionary.

Day 3: "I'm a CLOSE Reader" - This page is the first part of a CLOSE read of the weekly anthology selection. Students must make a prediction and look for new words during their first read through of the story, as well as think critically about the story to come up with a question and something they found interesting in the story.

Day 4: "I'm a CLOSE Reader" - This is the 2nd part of their CLOSE read. For this second read through of the story students must come up with a summary highlighting the main idea of the story, 3 key details they found throughout the story, as well as create a depiction of their favorite part in the story.

Day 5: "A to Z About..." - This page is another interactive page that students can do after they complete their weekly work in the journal or whatever other "must do's" you have your students work on. For this page students must come up with words or phrases that have something to do with the weekly concept they've been studying.
