This is the fifth set of 20 of “Fry’s Second Hundred Words”. They are the most commonly used words (sight words) for 2nd graders. Because they are the most commonly used words, students MUST learn not only to read these words, but to spell them as well.
This is meant to go along with the McGraw-Hill, Reading Wonders curriculum for 2nd grade. I use only four sight words per week, as I use six of the phonics spelling words that are included with the Reading Wonders curriculum. I also like to review all the words periodically, and the sixth week in Reading Wonders makes for an easy time to review. I like less words done well, rather than a lot of words skimmed over!
Included in here are 5 weeks of instruction with a sixth week of review:
Each week includes:
four focused sight words for the week
a Sight Word Fluency Story
three spelling activities with many other ideas included
flashcards of the words, shown in three different fonts
teacher and student data sheets for keeping track of fluency
student-read sheets for the sight word fluency story
The review week includes three activities meant to reinforce the words learned in the previous 5 weeks:
Unscrambling the words
a game that doubles as flashcards
