These posters correlate with stories from Houghton Mifflin's Theme 3: Chinatown, A Trip to the Firehouse, Big Bushy Mustache, and Jamaica Louise James. I use these posters to introduce vocabulary words at the beginning of the week. The visuals help students build background knowledge about new words and to discuss what they see. The sentence frames provide support for oral discussions and writing activities.
The words are color-coded to match parts of speech: red=nouns, green=verbs, blue=adjectives, orange=other. Once students learn the vocabulary routines we use in our class, I begin to discuss and sort words based on their part of speech.
