ACT 1 shows a gymnasium with no measurements.
It asks students what they notice and what they wonder.
The teacher should guide students toward the following questions:
What is the area of the gymnasium?
What is the perimeter of the gymnasium?
Students should then ask for needed information to answer those questions.
When asked, the teacher will provide ACT 2 which is a picture with measurements.
Students must use this information to calculate area and perimeter.
The teacher should ask questions to guide student through problem solving.
Guide students to use the distributive property to find area.
Have students who are having success, share their strategies with the other groups.
The teacher should try to only ask guiding questions during this task.
