This product contains 3 bookmarks, all printed on one page. Each bookmark contains 12-13 pictures and corresponding keywords associated with one of the 37 most common rimes/word families. To use, simply cut the bookmarks out along the dark black lines. Then, fold on the dotted line and glue to make double-sided bookmarks. I laminated mine so they would last longer, and gave them to my students to use as they read. When they encountered a new word and felt stuck, I encouraged them to look for a keyword with the same rime or word family as the tricky word. (For example, if they couldn’t read “night”, they’d find the –ight in “light” to help them.) My English language learners especially benefited from the picture connection to each word.
I’ve also included black and white versions if you want your students to color them. The last bookmark also includes one extra box where you could add another picture and keyword for a different word family you've studied.
Word families included: ack, ail, ain, ake, ale, at, ame, an, ank, ap, ash, ate, aw, ay, ick, eat, ell, est, ice, ide, ight, ill, in, ine, ing, ink, ip, it, ock, oke, op, ore, ot, uck, ug, ump, unk
