Three Branches of Government for Texas History

This lesson is designed for your Spanish speaking students. The lesson directions are in English, but the reading and the activity is in Spanish.

The Three Branches of Government Activity is designed to help your students understand one of the key principles of our government – separation of powers. In this activity, students will start with a concept attainment strategy called a Word Splash. They will be given a list of vocabulary words, determine the connection and write a brief summary to describe their thoughts. They will then be guided through a reading on the Three Branches of Government with a during reading strategy called an Opinion/Proof. Information specific to Texas is included in this reading. Your student will conclude this activity with both a discussion and writing prompt in the 3-2-1 Summary.

This activity is designed to support a variety of reading levels with the intentional use of Before, During and After Reading Strategies. Your ELL students will benefit not only from these strategies but also the opportunities for discussion as they learn about our Texas government.

When you purchase this activity you will receive:

-detailed lesson plans explaining the steps to follow
-a 3 page reading to reproduce for your students on the Three Branches of Government
-handouts for each portion of the activity that can be embedded into and Interactive Student Notebook
