I have created this guided reading template to use the same book over the course of 3 days. Each day is meant to be ten minutes. The template can be used levels A-Z.
The first day is word work and book introduction. If you struggle with picking what word work, page two has word work ideas for each level. I just went through the continuum and picked out word work that went with each level. You can use Words Their Way to get word lists or make your own with the group.
The second day is reading the book and discussion. For the discussion questions I used a lot of the DRA questions to help students in that area.
The third day is review/finish reading and then a guided writing and assessment portion. For writing, students can either have a reading response or dictated writing, depending on level. While your group is writing, the teacher can choose one student each time to assess. I put a variety of things to use as an assessment. This is usually a forgotten piece, but can really help us figure out where our students are and move them up accordingly.
