This resource is a great way to get students thinking about place value and fair trades. Each riddle involves either 1 fair trade or 2. For example, 14 tens 9 ones prompts students to think about how ten 10s is 100 so this number is 149.
The task cards provide a variety of uses in the classroom:
- hang them up around the room and students walk around solving the room
- students work with a partner or group to solve the riddles
-put a riddle up on the board and all students solve the same riddle independently at their seats
- use a riddle or two as math warm up or morning work
