In a world of "prose," students' experiencing the "power of the poetic" is the purpose of these three worksheets. Use these as tools to see firsthand the exquisite capacity of figurative language to communicate multi-facted meanings, while reaching beyond the mind into the emotions.
#1: "Descriptive Sensory Writing" is a TEMPLATE for student interaction with any literature. Students select and identify sensory language examples. #2: "Figurative Lang." is an exercise in analyzing the included literary examples against 9 literary devices. #3: "Similes, Metaphors, and Personification" focuses on those three devices exclusively, again interacting with self-contained literary examples. (Teacher suggestions are included for #3's use in a game format, group format, or discussion format.) Teacher keys are included. 18 pages total.
(Please note that the first two worksheets included here were previously posted as separate products -- "Descriptive & Sensory . . ." and "Figur. Lang Analysis." A third worksheet (Sim/Met/Person) has been added here to form a 3-worksheet package.)
