This main idea worksheet is modified from the middle school general reading comprehension curriculum. There are three levels of the main idea pages. The pages are very similar, giving students six opportunities to work on main idea.
The first activity is selected response. Students are to read the sentences and circle or mark the picture (from a field of 2) that shows what the sentence is about. The second activity is a cut and paste/matching. Students are to cut out the six pictures on the next page and match them with the sentence that each picture shows. These are the same sentences used in the first activity. The third activity gives students a picture (the same used in the other activities) and has students write a sentence to show the main idea of the picture.
This can be used for scaffolding or for differentiation among a class.
A helpful key in the top right corner assists teachers with data collection and easy scoring.
