These songs are for students, who although they may not currently know how to read standard music notation, they may still want to play tunes of church songs, including hymns. While reinforcing the letter names of the piano keys, your students may learn to play these 3 songs: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty,” “Jesus Calls Us,” and “My Hope Is Built (The Solid Rock).” Please note that the rhythms will not be presented. Therefore, the students need to recognize the song well enough so they will know how short or how long to hold the keys. (To help students familiarize themselves with the songs, a computer-generated recording of each melody is included in wave format.)
Each song has a paper keyboard which is to help students know where to place their hands (Figure 1). The groups of 2 and 3 black or gray keys visually help in finding which white keys are to be played. To play the song, follow the words (lyrics) of the song which are under the keys that are to be played (Figure 2). Play the keys, following the lyrics starting from the top.
