I was inspired by a Kate Kinsella workshop that I attended and created this scaffolded essay template. I wanted my sixth-grade and seventh-grade students who are designated ELLs and those with an IEP to write an argumentative essay that included spaces for citing their research.
I found that five paragraphs could be too long for some of my students with special needs, so I created a three paragraph version. This template is entirely full of sentence frames for ELL and SPED students who need shorter essay templates.
What's great about this template is the fact that you can edit it as needed.
I highly recommend providing students with a writing checklist as they complete this assignment so that they can incorporate writing elements that you have taught.
