This offering is a three puzzle package of puzzles involving either O. Henry (William Sydney Porter) or his short story The Ransom of Red Chief. Included are a vocabulary/matching puzzle with 15 words. There is an adjective search on finding 18 adjectives that O. Henry used in The Ransom of Red Chief. I DO give brief definitions of the adjectives I'm asking the puzzle-doer to find. And there's a crossword puzzle that would provide a nice look back at The Ransom of Red Chief. There are about 7 of the clues (which I've put in bold-face type) that deal specifically with O. Henry or The Ransom of Red Chief. These clues are not too deep, but the puzzle WILL be enough to force some thinking. My solution page also explains some of my more "uncommon" answers. For younger students it might be best to work the puzzle in pairs or groups, or even as a class. It's intended to generate a challenge while providing some fun. Learning some new vocabulary is always a goal of mine in my crosswords. Remember! The point of a crossword is to have a little fun/challenge while you are learning something. You are not supposed to know each answer right away upon glancing at the clue. It would be no fun if you did. You’d have LEARNED nothing. (This is a message that might be imparted to your students.) I try to phrase enough of the clues so that a student/person will know many of the answers immediately . . . the rest of the clues I want to challenge the doer a little bit. When they’ve learned something through being challenged they’ll appreciate their accomplishment, and the experience, a lot more.
