Students will read advanced rhythm patterns off of their St. Patty's Day Rhythm worksheet. Then, they will sort them by rhythms that are of 3/4 time signature with 3 beats and rhythms are 4 beats long from 4/4 time signatures. They will sort and notate the 3 beat patterns under the 3 leaf clover and the 4 beat patterns under the 4 leaf cover.
Quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, eighth rests, sixteenth notes, sixteenth/eighth combinations, half notes, and half rests are used in this version of the activity. An answer sheet is provided for grading or substitute usage.
As an extension of this activity, after completing the worksheet, the teacher could clap one of the patterns from the rhythm sheet and students could create a three leaf clover, by joining hands with two other students, or a 4 leaf clover by joining hands with four other students, to move and assess understanding.
