This is a 30-45 minute science investigation into how birds (specifically penguin) feathers keep them dry even while swimming.
-3 pages of student lab work including making hypothesis, gathering data, and drawing conclusions
-an easy to use print out/ email ahead of time volunteer guide for parent volunteers to use
I use this in conjunction with a fun blubber experiment during our penguin/text features unit. I know it's hard to fit in science, but I've found my students often do some of their best reading strategy use and writing when they are engaged in science investigations.
As always, please let me know if anything needs to be changed or updated. I appreciate feedback!
