This assessment system allows students to master their multiplication facts, factors 1-12, in 30 seconds or less. This packet contains a homework system (Multiplication Menu), 30 second quizzes (12 sets of quizzes, factors 1-12), parent introduction letter, 2 documents to keep track of each student's progress, and warning slips (Focus Factor Failure Slips) for students who do not pass their quiz for two weeks in a row.
There are so many positive attributes to this system:
The Multiplication Menu-
-Print for each student and place in a plastic sheet protector.
-This saves a ton of paper because you are not printing off a million homework sheets each week.
-Students can choose the style for completing their homework and it is completed on lined paper.
-This incorporates technology, parent involvement, and higher level thinking skills.
-The student will use a pencil to cross out factors that are mastered, so he/she can easily see which factor they are on.
-These are super quick quizzes that do not waist instructional time!
-Each page has 6 quizzes for one factor (This saves a ton of paper!). Print multiple copies of each quiz and cut the quizzes apart. Bind each set of factors together with rubber bands or clips. You can even file this in an organizer for easy access.
-There are 12 sets of quizzes for each factor 1-12.
-When first implementing the system, quiz students in this order until they can't pass a certain factor: 1, 10, 11, 2, 5, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12. Which ever factor they can't pass will be where the student will begin the program. You give them 30 seconds only for each quiz.
-After the initial assessment, you will then quiz your students every Friday, because they will practice nightly on their specific factor using the multiplication menu.
-If the student passes, he/she will move on to the next factor. If they do not pass, they must stay on the same factor for the next week. If they do not pass two weeks in a row, they get a notice sent to their parent which must be signed and returned on Monday.
-This system allows students to move at their own pace instead of being stuck on factors they already know.
The Tracking System-
-The Multiplication Tracker allows you to see at a glance who needs remediation and who needs enrichment.
-As a supplement, you can also create posters outside your classroom that look just like the tracker. When the student passes a quiz they get a star in the box by their name! They love for the world to see their progress and nobody wants to not have many stars! This is great motivation!
Focus Factor Failure Tracker-
This allows you to see who is failing multiple weeks in a row or on a consistent basis. This is great documentation!
Focus Factor Failure slips-
-This notifies parents that their child is struggling/not studying/etc...
-When a child returns his/her Focus Factor Failure Slip with their parent's signature, circle the "x" on your tracking sheet to also keep track of who is/is not returning their slips.
Best of All.....you can make it your own! All sheets are editable. Please understand though, I have created tables, and if you move tables around, sometimes it makes your document look crazy! My advice to you is to "save as" a new document if /when you make changes. This way you can always have the original.
I've included these tips in your packet, so you can print them out! :)
