PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a very fun activity for kids of ALL ages. I tested the cards out for 3 weeks with all of my speech groups (kindergarten through 6th grade) and all the children had a great time. It sparked a lot of great debates on why a child chose one option over the other (e.g. Would you rather be a dragon or a dinosaur? Why?). I also like to give them one to talk about as they walk back to class, and as they are leaving my speech room I can hear them excitingly discussing and explaining their answers. The kids are all engaged and eager during the entire activity. Some cards are silly to make them laugh and some make them think. And of course being able to explain your answer is a great skill to learn.

*If one of the children doesn't understand one of the choices it is a great opportunity to have another child explain the option (e.g. explain who Robin Hood is), or to even take the time to look up the option as a group (e.g. Apatosaurus-long neck dinosaur).

There are 10 different categories each containing 30 questions, sentence starter frames, and a writing activity.

1. Food (pg 1-2)
2. People (pg 3-4)
3. Characters (pg 5-6)
4. Animals (pg 7-8)
5. Living (pg 9-10)
6. Travel (pg 11-12)
7. Pets (pg 13-14)
8. Self (pg 15-16)
9. Weird (pg 17-18)
10. School (pg 19-20)
11. Sentence starter frames (pg 21)
12. Writing Activity (pg 22)

Activity Ideas:

1. Get to Know You Activity: this is an excellent Ice Breaker, even the shyest of kids enjoy this activity
2. Conversation starters: great to get kids engaged and comfortable talking to one another
3. Sentence creation activity: using the sentence frames to produce grammatical sentences
4. As a game: put all the questions in a bowl and each child takes turns pulling one out and everyone answers and explains their choice. If you have a full classroom you can pull the question and have them get up and Option A goes to one side of the room and Option B goes to the other side. This is great to get them moving around and wake up. Then you can use Popsicle sticks and call on a couple kids to explain their answers each time.
5. Speech Group: asking and answering questions and commenting on other's and their own choices-promoting discussion
6. Writing activity: explaining their choice giving 3 reasons as to why they chose the option, they can even draw a picture (worksheet included in packet)
7. Questions to ask when you have extra time: if you have a few extra minutes to waste before the bell rings, or even re-engage them
8. After you go through a couple rounds you can have the children create and ask their own “Would you rather” questions-this really gets their brains turning and you will hear some really silly ones from them
