What's an unfinished story?
An unfinished story is just what it sounds like, a story that has no end. More developed than a short writing prompt, this story prompt gives students the first part of a story that ends on a cliff-hanger. Because the story has no end, students will have to create their own drawing on their creativity. Even the most reluctant writer will find themselves sucked in with this deceptively simple method of getting students to write! Each story is also supported with questions and vocabulary activities to introduce the story and followed by discussion questions. This highly flexible, unfinished story model is perfect for teaching reading, creative writing, or discussion. It's easy to use as a one-time treat or integrate into a larger creative writing unit.
What are they about?
The stories in this collection run the gamut. There's a simple story about a boy choosing a pet and a fable about success, where students get to decide what success really is. Texting vs. Calling tells the story of an anti-social tech bro who may have found a kindred spirit. The Spooky House is a classic haunted house story that your students get to finish and Gifted gets into the idea of special needs students and the ways we use euphemisms.
In short, there's a broad variety of stories with various levels of complexity, theme, and level. And each story comes with plenty of support resources, making this collection very adaptable!
- A hero image and preview questions to introduce the theme of the story
- A vocabulary preview activity
- The story itself
- Comprehension and discussion questions
- Prompts to finish the story
- Various extension ideas to engage students further with the theme of the story. These include short essay ideas, interview questions, prompts to illustrate the story, and projects to retell or rewrite parts of the story.

Tell me more about these stories and where they come from.
Each story in this bundle was taken from Stories Without End by Taylor Sapp and the upcoming second edition of Stories Without End. The book was a finalist for the 2019 ELTon Award for Innovation in Learner's Resources, presented by the British Council, and is widely used in various English language programs.
You can buy the full book in paperback wherever you buy books.
Wait, so why is the bundle more expensive than the book?
The paperback book is non-photocopiable. We do offer discounts on class sets, but if you want fully downloadable, printable, and copiable resources for your classroom, the bundle is the way to go. (And we hope you'll encourage your peers to buy multiple licenses for their classrooms). This is a lifelong tool, so we think it's great value for the money.
